Allampura village is situated at a distance of about 8 kms from chikmagalur town along Tarikere road. The population of the village is 1590 as per census 2001. The population of the village and growth rate is indicated in the above table. From 1991 to 2001 there is an increase of households from 239 to 345. Hence seeing the growth rate from 1961 to 2001, there is a gradual increase, where the growth rate has increased as well as decreased .But there is positive trend.

The occupation pattern describes the economic status of the village. Percentage of other workers is 86.1% where as cultivators and agricultural laborers are 9.7% and 2.4% to total workers. All workers, i.e., those who have been engaged in some economic activity during the last one year, but are not cultivators or agricultural laborers or in Household Industry, are 'Other Workers (OW)'. The type of workers that come under this category of 'OW' include all government servants, municipal employees, teachers, factory workers, plantation workers, those engaged in trade, commerce, business, transport banking, mining, construction, political or social work, priests, entertainment artists, etc. In effect, all those workers other than cultivators or agricultural laborers or household industry workers are 'Other Workers’. Since other workers are more in Allampura village, they have depended on Chikmagalur city for their economic life.      Hence, many people travel from the village to the city for their daily work

.

From the above table- 8   we can see the sex ratio of the village is 978 which is more compared to the Chikmagalur which is 957.Hence, more no of house hold industries can be proposed which helps the women of the village to earn their livelihood. Even if the industry is not actually located at home in rural areas there is a great possibility of the members of the house hold participating even if it is located anywhere within the village limits.
